Prior to VST's, Rack Extensions, AU., etc. there was the endless mess of cables connecting keyboards, mounted sound modules, your tinkerer friend's custom whatever that thing is, and your "go to" gear. That last part is important. No matter how you approach music making, you always end up having some type of "go to" gear. Rob Papen has designed such a piece of virtual hardware known simply as Go2. Ignoring the manual as always, I was greeted by the familiar feel (ok, so I've only used 2 other RP products, so what) of a Rob Papen UI. They look as if they are truly back-lit with a replaceable led or something. That's when I thought I'd see if I could finish something I was making by adding a little Go2. I pressed one key, just one, of the first preset. They key was not just a key, it was a sequence. The sequence then morphed slightly and then looped. The UI is clear. The ARP is right at the top to the right. I turned that off and was still a little confused. There was nothing wrong with the sound. There was something wrong with the music I was making. Without thinking about it I started a new song. I figured clicking a few presets down the list might make me get back to examining the Go2 itself. Wrong. The very next preset induced a similar feeling, I wanted to make something. I managed to fight the urge (ok, I'll admit there was some recording done) to make an instrumental at least long enough to examine the presets, the correspondence between the XY modulation input method and slightly abuse the mod wheel. The pitch bend was sadly neglected in this as it was all I could do to not pretend I am Mr. Collins feeling it in the air tonight. The sounds are not too thick and loud (pressing the key does not make little sausage wave forms) nor are they limited to one genre or mood. What I found odd yet awesome is that the sounds go well with each other meaning that you could load a bunch of instances of Go2 and it would sound cohesive with the sounds complimenting each other as opposed to fighting to be heard. That really stood out to me. This could easily become your go to gear.

After thinking about buying Go2 for a week I finally decided to buy. I must say I’m very impressed with the sound quality and ease of use. I’m loving programming sounds with this. This is how a soft synth needs to be developed. Rob papen and his team did a fantastic job.

Top notch product for the price. Simple yet powerful. Chord mode in the sequencer is something I'm seeing for the first time. Worth every penny!
